Bitumen Testing
IS 73 / IS 1201-1220
Bitumen is used widely in road construction, gaining certain unique properties that are built in during its manufacture. As a raw material in flexible road construction, and as a mix, it offers advantages that make it the material of choice for road works. Bitumen testing is required to establish binding strength and suitability under different climatic conditions.
We test to the IS 1201-1220 series: penetration, ductility, softening point (ring & ball) and binder content, with mix design support for bituminous layers.
Tests in this category
Softening Point of Bitumen (Ring & Ball)
Temperature at which bitumen softens enough to sag a fixed distance under a steel ball.
IS 1205Penetration Test on Bitumen
Depth a standard needle sinks into bitumen under fixed load, time and temperature — the basis of bitumen grading.
IS 1203Bitumen (Binder) Content of a Mix
Percentage of bitumen binder in a compacted or loose bituminous mix, determined by extraction.
IS 15462Bituminous Mix Design
Marshall stability and volumetric design of bituminous concrete and dense bituminous macadam mixes.
