Bituminous Mix Design
Marshall Method (Asphalt Institute MS-2) / MoRTH Specifications
Trial mixes of aggregate and bitumen at varying binder content are compacted into Marshall specimens and tested for stability (resistance to plastic flow) and flow, alongside volumetric checks such as air voids, voids in mineral aggregate (VMA) and voids filled with bitumen (VFB).
The results are used to select the Optimum Binder Content that satisfies MoRTH specification limits for the given mix type (e.g. BC, DBM), before the mix is approved for production and paving.
