Aggregate Crushing Value
IS 2386 (Part 4)
A sample of single-size aggregate is compacted into a steel cylinder and subjected to a standard compressive load of 40 tonnes applied gradually over 10 minutes. The material is then sieved, and the percentage passing a 2.36 mm sieve (the fines generated by crushing) is the Aggregate Crushing Value.
A lower value indicates a stronger aggregate. The test is used to judge suitability for pavement and heavy-duty concrete applications where load-bearing capacity matters most.
