Coarse Aggregate Testing
IS 2386 (all parts) / IS 383
Coarse aggregate is tested for grading, particle shape (flakiness/elongation), density, water absorption, and mechanical strength (crushing, impact and abrasion resistance), each governed by a specific part of IS 2386.
Together these checks confirm the aggregate is suitable for the intended use — from mass concrete to pavement quality concrete — and identify material that is too weak, too flaky or poorly graded before it is used.
